Historical Outline

On March 25, 1995, Belka, led by a far-right government and facing resource shortages and economic hardship, invaded the already independent nation of Ustio. The Belkan War began. Ustio formed a coalition with Osea and other nations, and Cipher of Galm Team became a pivotal ace. On June 6, 1995, the Belkan military used seven nuclear devices in the Waldreich Mountains. A ceasefire followed on June 20.

Narrative Significance

The Belkan War is both the central event of Zero and an entry point for understanding national trauma, revenge politics, the spread of military technology, and covert operations in later games. The fan meme that “Belka is the root of all evil” is a generalization, not a substitute for evidence in each case.
